Sancha Conway Holroyd
Sancha graduated with a First-Class Honours in BSc Marine Biology and Coastal Ecology from The University of Plymouth. In 2022 Sancha's pursuit of academia took her onto a Research Masters's (ResM) in Marine Science, and she is currently working towards her PhD.
Her research interest lies in the novel field of marine ornamental ecophysiology. She is currently looking at how we can utilise information gained from ecophysiological techniques to tackle key questions/theories from a biological perspective and advise practice within the marine ornamental trade. Specifically, to inform husbandry practice and identify specific suitable (and avoidable!) conditions for transporting marine ornamental species to improve overall health and minimise mortality rates associated with the industry.
Her current focus is on ornamental invertebrates, specifically cleaner shrimp (Lysmata amboinensis). Prior to research, Sancha worked in the ornamental industry with a focus on livestock husbandry (fish, inverts & coral), consumer advisory and stock importations. Sancha has also worked with marine ornamental exporters and local trades fishermen out in Cebu, Philippines. Outside of research, Sancha runs a not-for-profit organisation, engages in youth work for the UNFCCC and enjoys public speaking.
